NEW VENUE: Riverside Tiddington

Doors open 19:30 Performance starts 20:00

Nick Smart piano, Jesse Barrett drums and tabla, Jordan Smart saxophones

A bassless trio. Mammal Hands have a unique take on the classic lineup and also offer a different perspective to the jazz scene. Whilst Saxophonist Jordan Smart explores the amalgamation of John Coltrane, Pharaoh Saunders and DJ culture, his brother, pianist Nick Smart lays down jazz harmonies with attracts of Terry Riley esque minimalism. Drafting in Tabla trained drummer Jesse Barrett, this group has an amazing mix of contemporary styles that offers depth but also true accessibility.

Stratford Jazz prides itself on searching out the best jazz musicians across the globe. All too often jazz clubs cast an eye to the London scene, but there are some fantastic musicians in the north of the country too. When researching this group it soon became obvious that although this ‘Jazz North’ artist of 2015-16 is firmly positioned in Manchester, the roots come all the way back to Stratford upon Avon with bandleader James Girling who studied in the town. A fresh faced group from the Royal Northern, this group plays progressive jazz with influences from Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Christian Scott and Bill Laurence (of Snarky Puppy fame).
